Suppose you were to interview any bible character of your choice. Whom would you pick? Here are my top three picks and the reasons why.
My firsts pick would be Lazarus [JOHN 11:1] and guess why? He would answer all my questions as regards the dead their state and resurrection. Quite amazing isn’t it?
Second, on the list, I pick the strongest man to ever live Samson [JUDGES 13:24] for a noticeable reason. He is a modern-day version of a superhero the likes of batman, superman, hulk, etc. To see what he looked like would be the whole thing for me.
Last but not least I would pick the all-wise King Solomon [2 SAMUEL 12:24]. His is a cool story but with a sad ending. He was bestowed with wisdom to rule over Jerusalem but he ended up abusing it. One of the controversial episodes of his life is when he ends up having almost a thousand wives. How did he manage all of them I would ask? We could spend the whole day listing all the fascinating characters in the bible history but today there is someone I want you and me to pay close attention to, the mother of our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Her experience is none like others. Imagine from the time angel Gabriel delivers the good news:
The 9 months of pregnancy
Childhood days
Adolescent days
The hard times (Joseph’s death)
Good times in his life
Death and resurrection
And the Ascension
Mary never missed a part of Christ’s life on earth. Yet so little is mentioned from her. Was Mary given a chance to write some portion of scripture imagine the detail she would have included? Her version was going to be even better than the disciples’ who only knew Jesus for just three years. The parents of Jesus were poor and so he lived through trying times. This is evident from events surrounding his birth and his dedication to the temple. They could not afford a lamb but offered two turtle doves instead.
Luke 2:22-24
And when the days of her purification according to the Law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;
23 (As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord
24 And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.
Jesus is quoted by the Jews as having never learned.
John 7:14-15
Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.
15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?
KJV
But yet “Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man”. (Luke 2:52)
All thanks to Mary’s efforts in co-operating with heaven in raising him. One inspirational writer commenting on his childhood life had this to say:
The life of Christ was marked with respect and love for His mother. Mary believed in her heart that the holy child born of her was the long-promised Messiah, yet she dared not express her faith. Throughout His life on earth she was a partaker in His sufferings. She witnessed with sorrow the trials brought upon Him in His childhood and youth. By her vindication of what she knew to be right in His conduct, she herself was brought into trying positions. She looked upon the associations of the home, and the mother’s tender watch care over her children, as of vital importance in the formation of character. The sons and daughters of Joseph knew this, and by appealing to her anxiety, they tried to correct the practices of Jesus according to their standard. {DA 90.1}
Mary often remonstrated with Jesus, and urged Him to conform to the usages of the rabbis. But He could not be persuaded to change His habits of contemplating the works of God and seeking to alleviate the suffering of men or even of dumb animals. When the priests and teachers required Mary’s aid in controlling Jesus, she was greatly troubled; but peace came to her heart as He presented the statements of Scripture upholding His practices. {DA 90.2}
At times she wavered between Jesus and His brothers, who did not believe that He was the Sent of God; but evidence was abundant that His was a divine character. She saw Him sacrificing Himself for the good of others. His presence brought a purer atmosphere into the home, and His life was as leaven working amid the elements of society. Harmless and undefiled, He walked among the thoughtless, the rude, the un-courteous; amid the unjust publicans, the reckless prodigals, the unrighteous Samaritans, the heathen soldiers, the rough peasants, and the mixed multitude. He spoke a word of sympathy here and a word there, as He saw men weary, yet compelled to bear heavy burdens. He shared their burdens, and repeated to them the lessons He had learned from nature, of the love, the kindness, the goodness of God. {Desire of Ages p 90. By Ellen G. White}
Yet so little is mentioned from her? Don’t lose heart I have a message from the closest of them all.
She indeed made a big contribution
It was at the wedding at Cana that Marry made her big contribution. After the wine had run out and there seemed to be no way of acquiring some it was Mary who stirred the first miracle. How could she have known? Having watched the baby Jesus grow and develop into an adult she had seen it all and now it was about time.
John 2:1-5
And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: 2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. 3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. 4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. 5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
You and I we are the servants today. We are being told the very same words “Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it”. Will we regard those words? God the father also affirmed the same
Mark 9:7
And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.
KJV
This is my beloved Son: hear him.
Will you hear him? Have you stopped to think what would have happened if those servants refused her advice? It would have been a tragic end to the wedding. The same happens with us today. We have fallen into sin slavery because of failing to heed his word.
Why Must You and I hear Him?
He is Lord God Almighty
John 1vs 1-4
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2. The same was in the beginning with God. 3. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. 4. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
KJV
He is a caring Father
John 10:10
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
KJV
Matt 6:31-33
Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
KJV
He wants to save us
John 3:19
And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
KJV
He wants to make you his
John 1:12
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
KJV
Will you let him in? I already have. The choice is yours.
