To those who argue that Jesus was neither God nor a son of God, you may want to consider the following message. Hopefully, this will clear your doubts and help you understand and believe. Who Jesus was or is and came to do can be summed up in the following? So what is it this bible secret verse you may ask?
Mark 1:24
24 “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are — the Holy One of God!”
To understand this text it is important to identify who Jesus was talking to and why they were so sure who he was. Jesus called them out as evil spirits or demons as we know them today. Why does the demon say I know who you are? Let’s consider the following text.
Job 38:4-7
Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. 5 Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it? 6 On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone 7 while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?

These evil spirits or demons have an origin. Like the devil, they too originated from heaven ‘perfect in all their ways until inequity was found in them’. What happened to them and how did they become evil spirits called demons?
Rev 12:7-9
7 And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. 8 But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. 9 The great dragon was hurled down — that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.
It is clear that when the spirit said to Jesus I know who you are they were not second-guessing him. They and Jesus once lived and worked together in harmony until they fought and were driven out of heaven. Also, notice that in the verses that follow Jesus did not allow the demons to speak in fear of hastening his death before the time was fulfilled for the Jews who were already in doubt as to his divinity would quickly have had him killed.
Mark 1:34
34 He healed many who were ill with various diseases and expelled many demons, but he did not allow the demons to speak, because they knew who he was.
Many might think this as an exaggeration or an invalid reason to believe because of a one-possessed mind. Consider the following scripture to ascertain how many of these evil spirits come demons testified of Jesus’s divinity.
Mark 5:7-9
7 He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Swear to God that you won’t torture me!” For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you evil spirit!” 9 Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” “My name is Legion,” he replied, “for we are many.”
The definition of the word legion varies. Most translations define it as great in number, countless or infinite. Legion means a vast number of people or things. In the Roman army, a legion consisted of from three to five thousand men. I believe therefore that Satan’s hosts also are marshalled in companies, and the single company to which these demons belonged numbered no less than a legion.
Sadly many choose to ignore the truth and believe otherwise. Like the religious leaders in Jesus’s time who refused every sign and miracle that was performed before their eyes, it will be said of them ‘How will you escape being condemned to hell?’
God help us to open our hearts to his supplications and not allow us to be blinded by ourselves and the lures of this world. God bless you and see you in the next lesson.
