Before leaving planet earth Jesus left us a warning.  Earth’s ruler is coming, he said. (John 14:30) “I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming.” Who is this ruler and what does he intend on doing you may ask?

Rev 12:12

12 Therefore rejoice ye heavens and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

A short time to do what you may wonder? The devil is certainly up to something but it’s not clear what it is. All we know is that he is up to no good as he has always been and will forever be a great deceiver straying many from the truth. In this case, however, there seems to be a sense of urgency driving him forward that leads me to wonder what exactly is he planning on doing seeing we are living in the last days.

Eph 6:10-13

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world, and the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

A war is coming. It might have already started. The devil has mobilized his forces, have you? How are you able to stand if you have no armor? The Bible bids us to take on the armor of God to resist the devil and his allies. What is the nature of this war? Who are the above-mentioned rulers, authorities, powers of darkness, and spiritual forces?

Rev 12:7-9

7 And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. 8 But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. 9 The great dragon was hurled down — that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.

After landing on planet earth the devil and his angels have combined forces with some rulers of this earth to perpetuate their mission. How this happens is explained in the bible as follows.

Rev 13:3-8

13 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. 2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. 3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.

This might sound confusing at first but let me break it down for you. In the previous bible text that we covered (Rev 12) John the writer explained to us that the dragon is non-other than ‘that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray.’ In the bible violent winds stand for wars, the sea stands for people and a beast stands for a superpower. This is clear when you read about the great city of Babylon from the book of Daniel chapter 7. Daniel first interpreted the rise of Babylon into world power using a great image that King Nebuchadnezzar had dreamt in the first chapters but he, later on, described it using a beast (lion), winds, and the great sea.

A beast coming out after the great winds suggest some form or a series of wars amongst the seas which represent the people. The beast is the resulting superpower. So when it says that the dragon gave to the beast his power and his seat and his authority that suggests that he (Satan earth’s ruler) is greatly involved in the affairs of the world and is working behind scenes using mostly the powerful and influential people of this earth. He makes it appear that we are following some kind of human organized law and values when in fact it’s all him.

Rev 13:3-8

4 And they worshiped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshiped the beast, saying, who is like unto the beast? Who can make war with him? 5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. 6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. 7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindred, and tongues, and nations. 8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

The devil intends to overthrow the law of God and establish his own. It is no doubt we are living in those times where this is happening or some of it has happened. Let me share with you one of my experiences. In the year 2010 when I was in college, a large number of students filled a large conference room to debate on a particular subject and I happened to be present. Projected on the wall was the topic statement which read “To condomize or to abstain, which one is relevant”? I’m sure you can guess which side the majority picked.

This serves to show you how determined the devil is in his endeavors to overthrow the work of God and is doing so successfully as it is written of him that “the entire world wondered after the beast” who was given authority by the dragon who is Satan. We are living in a time where the law of God is openly ridiculed before our eyes using instruments of so-called global values and human rights which, to reject them is to apply for persecution.

Adultery and fornication are the order of the day and with this state of things who knows what’s next? One by one God’s true moral law is being swept away for immoral and heinous laws which are nothing but human inventions as they are being influenced by the kingdom of Satan. The Bible has warned of such a time and another example occurred during the period of the French revolution. In 1972-3 France established fornication by law, threw off religion, and erected a Temple of Reason center which they worshiped a vile woman known as the goddess of reason.

They also passed a decree to have some religious leaders killed and banned the use of bibles. Bibles were publicly burnt. A week of 10 days instead of seven was established and death was declared eternal sleep. The crowning blasphemy is said to have come from a comedian by the name of Monvel a priest of Illuminism who declared “God! If you exist, avenge your injured name. I bid you defiance. You remain silent; you dare not launch your thunders; who after this will believe in your existence”?

We are witnessing a slow repeat of such acts of blasphemy today and these will culminate with the persecution yet again of God’s people. Atheism is prevalent among many. Devil worshipers walk among us freely. Prostitution is declared legal in some countries of the world. Only God knows what’s next. Did Jesus foresee such events? Yes, he did and this is what he had to say.

Matt 24:4-14

4 Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains. 9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

Jesus is coming soon

As the song goes “it’s not an easy road we are traveling to heaven”. Christ bids us to stand firm to the end and be witnesses unto all nations. In this world, we will have many tribulations but his promise is sure, behold I come quickly with my reward to give to those who have stood for the truth. As events unfold before our eyes, as the devil drives people to hate God’s commandments and to replace them with his evil laws we Christians are to stand firm and endure the persecution with bravery and faith because the eye has not seen what the lord has prepared for us in heaven.

May God help us to remain true to his will.

God bless you and see you in the next lesson
