The word of God is so shunned nowadays. Even the very Christians themselves do not follow every teaching that the word of God has set. Why is it so you may wonder? Today I want to share with you a few points that will shed light on this matter.
2 Chron 20:1-4
20 After this, the Moabites and Ammonites with some of the Meunites came to make war on Jehoshaphat. 2 Some men came and told Jehoshaphat, “A vast army is coming against you from Edom, from the other side of the Sea. It is already in Hazazon Tamar” (that is, En Gedi).
3 Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord, and he proclaimed a fast for all Judah. 4 The people of Judah came together to seek help from the Lord; indeed, they came from every town in Judah to seek him.
Read the whole story up to the end. Jehoshaphat being king of Israel at the time receives news of a looming invasion that is at the doors of the Israeli camp. Being a God-fearing man he consults with him and victory is promised. But how you may ask? By just singing psalms three great kingdoms were subdued that day and Israel soldiers never lifted a single finger.
This is the case whenever God is in control. There is little that man can do when he assumes the reigns. But the question is, is a man comfortable with such management nowadays?
Just imagine soldiers dressing up for war with all the guns and war equipment hanging from every side of their bodies. All the training, the motivations, and war cries done but to end in song. What a waste of energy and time someone would say. What was the point of carrying guns if they were to sing and nothing else?
1. Today man wants to be a master of his destiny
1 Sam 8:4-9
4 So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. 5 They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.” 6 But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord.
7 And the Lord told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you whom they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. 8 As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. 9 Now listen to them, but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do.”
Under the rulership of God Almighty, there is one king, one hero, one intellect, and one master who is celebrated and deserves all the glory and that’s God himself. In the worldly kingdoms, mere mortals are the rulers, kings, celebrated heroes, and intellectuals and it is they that receive all the glory.
Because man craves this power, display, and admiration he will stop at none. God and his plain truth are therefore substituted with deeds and teachings that seek to glorify man.
2. Man thinks toughness is the way to go

From the above texts, Jesus warned the crowd of several issues of faith. Some of the issues he touched on included the wrongfulness of telling jokes, swearing, breaking promises, of the display, revenge, or judging, among other things. Most of these behaviors are prevalent amongst Worldlings and Christians alike.
People will take you for a fool or a weakling if you counsel against such because it’s become common practice and they do not see any fault in that. But is it the way to go? The answer is No.
Growing up in a Christian community there has always been a subject of debate as to the kinds of entertainment that we should involve ourselves in. An example of the counseling we got was not to play such games as soccer for recreational purposes because of the excitement that arises which such games resulting in quarrels and so on. Like the rest of the world Christians are glued to these many forms of entertainment that mislead the mind.
Man thinks the true gospel softens and turns them into weaklings but that’s not the case. He thinks adherence to principle will not help him achieve much but he is wrong. The carnal mind does not appreciate spiritual things that’s why?
1 Cor 1:25-31
25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength. 26 Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.
28 He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things — and the things that are not — to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God — that is, our righteousness, holiness, and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.”
May God help us to separate ourselves from the world. To break the longing to conform to worldly practices and customs that exist among the professed people of God. By becoming friends with the world, we become the enemies of God.
