We All Believe Something

Can a man deny the existence of both God and darkness and remain impartial not believing or holding on to anything that is a deity? Can my sins be excused because I do not believe in the law of God?

What do you think about people who detach their lives either from being Godly (attending church) or being worldly (partying and drunkenness)? Can one play neutral in this great controversy?

You have heard that the difference between man and animals is that man can choose between right and wrong whilst animals do not. Whilst this philosophy is debatable here is another I wish to turn your mind to today.

For many years man has attempted to domesticate various wild animals winning some and failing with others. People who adopt these animals end up letting go of them as they grow up because as they mature, their instincts start to take over and they can be aggressive. In the bible what distinction did God create between man and animals?

Gen 3:21

21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. 22 And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil.

The above texts suggest that after creation God was done with nature and the animals. With Adam and Eve, he was not. He made visits to the couple to chat with them and to give a grounding in them as to the law and how to live “For without knowledge God’s people will surely perish”.

Adam and Eve could not cover their nudity properly after they had sinned and hence God assisted the clueless couple by making garments of skin for them. Notice we also learn of the two kinds of knowledge, good and evil with none in the middle.

This is the one difference between us and animals. Humans are curious beings and they have to constantly learn to survive and meet life’s demands. Ours is a complex life-changing and advancing every day because of knowledge. On the other hand and since creation animals have remained the same, always repeating the same pattern of life innate without any advancement at all.

Hosea 4:6

6. My people are destroyed by a lack of knowledge. 7. “Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.

The human way of life is to receive, store, manipulate and process knowledge to make everyday decisions. The knowledge that we use comes from rituals, beliefs, traditions, customs, and religion.

With this being said can one deny the existence of God and remain impartial not believing or holding on to anything that is a deity? Can one doubt the law and remain sin free? Is that possible? Let us look at these two examples from the bible.

Gen 4:6-8

6 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it.”

It looks like the moment a person discards certain knowledge another quickly takes over. Cain did not like the fact that his offering had been denied. It became clear that he wasn’t liking the truth at all and he went on to commit murder.

In his statement to Cain, God did not leave room for doubt or impartiality. He clearly stated, “But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door” It is at that moment that Cain had chosen to side with the enemy the father of inequity.  Immediately as he left the presence of God another power assumed his control.  Let us look at one more last example before we conclude.

Luke 18:18-25

18 A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”… 22 when Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” 23 When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was a man of great wealth. 24 Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!

The rich young ruler had only one object standing before him and the kingdom of heaven and that was to sell all he had and follow the literal Jesus. Instead, he got sad and walked away. Was it possible for him to find other ways to get to the kingdom of heaven? Not! Jesus’s comment on him was plain and simple,” it’s very hard for the rich to enter the kingdom of God”

It is because their heart is not with God but it’s where their riches are. What advice could you have given the ruler after the incident with Jesus? Wouldn’t you have said “it doesn’t matter anymore now that Jesus has ascended back to heaven, you can keep your riches, all that’s needed now is to keep his law as you did before”

How many times have you heard such compromising statements from fellow Christians? When God makes a law we come and devise our own or make improvements or alterations to suit our needs. Is this the way of God?

We try and use these devices to put on a Godly image and yet it’s clear that we are denying its power. On whose side are we counted when we device such? When our mind denies a truth another quickly replaces it. That another is not God’s leading and cannot be used to justify ourselves.

2 Tim 3:1-5

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.

When our first parents sinned their minds had been processing God’s knowledge all along. As Eve started a conversation with the devil she started to process another in her mind and quickly fell for it. An attempt to justify themselves before God could not help them.

There are only two kinds of knowledge in the world none stands in the middle. We have the good and evil so whenever you do not seem to agree with the law of God repent before your mind quickly replaces that knowledge with the alternative-of sin.

God bless you as you ponder on this lesson
