When Man Stoops So Low

Sickening corruptions executed by human beings border us each day you wonder what ditch the world is headed for. Is Man still yet to debase himself even more or has he revealed thus already? What do you think?

What things terrify you the most today? What behavior do you consider most demeaning and end-time type? I am certain you have lost count because a lot is happening in the world right now and we can only hope for the soon coming of the Lord to put an end to this.

Whilst you be upset about human trafficking then comes terrorism, drug wars, drug abuse, rape, gender-based violence, hate speech and crimes, killings, witchcraft, devil worship, prostitution, incest, adultery, fornication, robberies, child dumping, molestation, and now a question of abortion rights, suicide hotels, same-sex marriages, and the list goes on.

You may think all this is very disgraceful but let me show you how and when man ever condescended so low.

1 Sam 8:4-9

So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. 5 They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.” 6 But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord.

7 And the Lord told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. 8 As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you.

9 Now listen to them, but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do.”

Are you still terrified by human trafficking, terrorism, hate, and so on? You should not. This is nothing compared to ousting God the Alpha and Omega, and assigning mortal man instead as it happened here. Never has there been a time when human beings stooped so low, downright disgrace!

What were they thinking you may wonder? Men shamed themself in such a time when God’s presence was felt among men and his voice audible to his prophets. “They have rejected me as their king” were the words from God. Oh! What a shame, Oh! What a great loss indeed.

As a Christian what should you do when you see the world turn its backs on God? What should be your response to that? What lesson do we derive from the above text?

1 Sam 8:6-8

6 But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord. 7 And the Lord told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king.

Like Samuel, we are displeased when people publicly denounce God but is it our place to stop them from doing so? Is it our duty or the duty of the church to defend the truth by all means possible?

If I were Samuel the first words to come out of my mouth would have read “Do you guys even hear yourself” or “Are you in your right mind”. I believe Samuel was tempted to but God did not allow it as he interjected with the words “It is not you they have rejected”.

Today we have a lot of issues that we face as Christians externally from the world and internally from the church congregants. How we address them has two effects on the church and the gospel of God.

If we push back by the time we open up we will be labeled as sluggish intellectuals, old-school or authoritarian people which discredits us as a church. At the same time if we open up too quickly it’s considered a sign of weakness.

Timing is very important in such situations. God did not go back and forth on this issue with the children of Israel. He gave them a green light with a warning about things that will befall them should they pursue such a course. God has always been like that.

Remember in the wilderness how he gave the Israelites meat when they complained about the manna and so on? Likewise, the church has to act smarter and anticipate some of these issues and prepare for them well in advance.

Prov 22:3

A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

Should the church then have to push back and forth with the current issues such as abortion rights and same-sex marriage? Or because we know for certain that the Lord has not instructed us thus so we let go with a cautionary as thus did the Lord God in the bible. Why are we afraid of that?

Jesus gave a parable depicting a situation where the good is raised together with the bad but separated at the end. Why aren’t we following that example?

Matt 13:30

Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.'”

Can the church stay the carnal mind from his steps? The answer is NO impossible! Even God said so in the bible.

Gen 6:5-7

The Lord saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. 6 The Lord was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain.

Man’s heart is evil continuously you can’t stop it but you can warn it. We cannot keep on arguing forever. When the mind is made up no one can change it but there comes a time when we have to let the consequences do the preaching for us and only then can we remind ourselves of how truthful God’s words forever are.

May God help us in our time of need when we need his wisdom to solve our issues and that of our friends.

God bless you and see you in the next lesson!
